Newcastle Benfield vs Chester-Le-Street

Saturday 5th September 2009

This is was probably one of the worst matches seen at Sam Smiths Park for a long time and it wasn't until the thirtieth minute that it was worth writing any thing and it was a weak shot from

Nathan Fisher and one minute later a similar shot came in from Steven Young.

The only good part of the first half was in the forty-fifth minute when Chris Carr had a miss controlled ball in the centre circle and this mistake was pounced on by Nathan Fisher who despite the close attention of two Benfield defenders showed good strength to run into the penalty area and flick the ball past goalkeeper Scott Pocklington to make it 1-0 to Chester-Le-Street at halftime.

The second half was twenty-five minutes old before anything decent happened and it was the visitors who had two good chances to go further ahead when firstly Andrew Armstrong who otherwise had a fine game headed over from a corner when he had a free header and a better chance occurred nine minutes later when Nathan Fisher went thru one on one with the goalkeeper but he side-footed past the far post. In between Andrew Dugdale was unlucky when he hit the crossbar but if Benfield had got anything out of the match it would have been unfortunate for Chester-Le-Street who deservedly won 1-0.
