Billingham Town vs Newcastle Benfield
Wednesday 18th August 2009
This was Newcastle Benfield 's second trip to Billingham within a week this time playing against town and looking for a better result than the game against Synthonia.
Again as in previous games Benfield started slowly and with a strong wind played a long ball game with Billingham playing some nice controlled carpet football but they had no end finish.
The first half chance came the visitors way in the twelfth minute when a precise thru ball from Stephen Buzzeo saw a half volley from Steven Young just flash over the crossbar and this trait continued when a good break between Young, Antony and Chilton ended with a shot from Chilton again going over the crossbar.
Whilst it was mainly the visitors who were on attack on one of the odd occasions Town attacked Grainger made a good save from Michael Emmerson but it was a matter of time when the away team would score and this happened in the thirty-fourth minute when another good Buzzeo pass saw Michael Chilton bury a low shot into the bottom corner of the net giving Josh Moody in goal no chance. To open the scoring at 1-0 for Benfield.
Within another three minutes the home team could have been two down when a looping header from Chilton hit the crossbar and the first half ended with the visitors one up.
The second half commenced with the home team still playing football which was nice on the eye but with no end product and suddenly Newcastle Benfield started to also play possession football and were unlucky as early as the eighth minute when Chilton was just wide but on the fifty-ninth minute a nice pass down the line by Dean Nicholson to Steven Young who took on the Billingham defender and produced a brilliant run and cross into the penalty area to Michael Chilton who turned sharply to score the second goal. It was then one way traffic for the rest of the second half with Benfield playing really good football and having shots by Chilton and Nicholson going just wide and a header by Leighton also going just wide.
The final goal came in the eighty-seventh minute with the move of the match, when another Nicholson pass down the line was picked up by Paul Antony who produced a great pass to Steven Young and when his lay off was taken by Michael Chilton who was then taken down in the penalty area and from the resultant spot kick scored both his and the teams third goal to give Newcastle Benfield a victory.
MOM... Steven Young.
