Paddy Atkinson

Team Coach

Born in Singapore, where I lived for 3 years and qualified to play for the Singapore Natioanl Team.

Started my career at Sheffiled United under Ian Portifield where I was there for 3 years as a apprentice / pro before transferring to Hartlepool United scoring 2 goals on my debut against Lincoln. I was at Hartleppol 2 and half years before Cyril Knowles died so the contract offered was poor so played for Gateshead in the Conference. Then moved to Barrow in the Conference under Ray Wilkie (legend of non league) he also passed away so then moved onto Workington Reds is the Unibond.

Newcastle United asked me on trial where I scored 3 goals in a pre-season friendly against my home town team of Whickham. Signed a non contract for Newcastle Utd playing for the Reserves Team for 3 years under Kevin Keegan, scoring against a Man Utd team which consisted of Neville, Scholes, Gilespie, (before he moved to the Toon) Butt, & Davis.

Unfortunately Keegan decided to scrap the Reserve Team so was asked by several clubs to go on trial; Raith Rovers; Ipswich Town, Leyton Orient; Notts County & York City (previously in the now 1st Division). Was at York City for 3 seasons having some great cup runs before moving to Scarborough who were then in the football league under Mick Wadsworth who went on to be assistant manager to Bobby Robson at Newcastle. Unfortunatley due to financial problems for players which left the team in a relegation fight the goalkeeper at Carlisle scored in the last minute of a game to send Scarborough out the football league.

After a groin op I moved to Queen of the South in Scotland where I played for 4 & half years winning a 2nd Division Championship medal & a Bell's Scottish Cup winners medal.

This is where I started my coaching career by taking the QOS Resevere Team at 33. In my first season I won the Reserve League and Reserve Cup before moving back to Newcastle to continue playing for Blyth Spartans, before moving onto Durham City for a shortwhile & then onto Benfield as Assistant manager to Paul Baker.
